You work 120 hours a week and make less than minimum wage.

The more you work, the less money you make. The harder you push, the more people come to take what you've built.

You're at your wits' end. And you're wondering: why do I even do this?

If that's you right now, this episode is for you.

In this short but powerful episode, Josiah Ryan gives straight-up encouragement to entrepreneurs who are in the trenches. The ones who are exhausted, frustrated, and wondering if any of this is worth it.

And here's the first thing you need to hear: what you're feeling is normal. That's entrepreneurship 101. The lows feel never-ending. The highs are fleeting. And most of the time, you're grinding just to stay above water.

But here's what you need to remember:

You've been called to this. You're cut from a different cloth. God didn't make you to get a job. He made you to do what you're doing—even when it sucks.

And there are three things you need to embrace if you're going to survive this:

1. You've been called to this—and God is already using you in ways you don't see yet.

You have a fire in your heart. That's why you work 120 hours a week for less than minimum wage. That's why getting a job isn't an option. You're completely unemployable—and that's not a bad thing. That's how God made you.

If you stay faithful to the mission, there's a promised land in store for you. It might not be in this life. But it's coming.

2. Jesus commanded you to live day by day—and if you embrace this, your stress will drop by 50%.

Matthew 6: "Look at the birds. They don't worry about anything. They're fed. And who of you can add a single hair to your head by worrying? Worry about today and let tomorrow bring its own troubles."

This isn't just a nice idea. It's an invitation to live a different way than the world.

Are you doing the best you can TODAY? Not tomorrow. Not next quarter. Today.

Sometimes doing your best is 30%. And that's okay. But stop trying to save reserves for tomorrow. Stop worrying about what's coming. Just show up today and do your best.

3. God is in control—but are you letting Him be in control?

If you're stressed, exhausted, and forcing things that aren't working—maybe you're trying to grab the reins. Maybe you're trying to do things your way instead of God's way.

Maybe God wants you to fire half your staff. Maybe He wants you to take a pay cut so you can build this thing in a cleaner direction. Maybe He's asking you to let go of the revenue goal you've been obsessing over.

If you follow God—no matter the cost, no matter how crazy it sounds—He will set you up on the right path.

What you'll learn in this episode:

Why feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and stuck is NORMAL for entrepreneurs—and why that means you're doing something hard Why you've been called to entrepreneurship and why you're cut from a different cloth How Jesus's command to "live day by day" (Matthew 6) can drop your stress by 50% Why worrying about tomorrow prevents you from doing your best today How to know if you're letting God be in control—or if you're trying to force things He doesn't want Why getting a job isn't an option for you—and why that's okay What it means to follow God "no matter the cost" in your business Why the promised land might not come in this life—but it's still worth fighting for

If you're in the trenches right now, if you're exhausted and wondering why you do this—this episode will remind you why you were built for this.

You've been called. You're cut from a different cloth. And God is in control.

All right, guys, what is going on? Welcome to another episode of the Christian Business Podcast. I'm your host, Josiah Ryan, and today we are going to have a fun episode. I want to give you some encouragement. All right. So basically, what I'm going to do here is I just want to talk to you as if you are an entrepreneur who has struggled. Maybe you've put in years of work at this point, and you're wondering why do I even do this? Why do I live this way? Why am I doing all this crazy stuff? Why am I forcing myself to do all these things that are just so uncomfortable? And I work and I work and I work and I put in all these hours. And it seems like the more work I do, the less money I make, the more people come to take it. And I'm just at my wit's end. All right. You guys, I have to share something with you. If you feel that way, that's entrepreneurship. That is entrepreneurship 101 in a nutshell, 24-7, 365, pretty much. There's gonna be times of reprieve, and you guys know this. There's highs and there are lows that come with this kind of a business, right? With this kind of a calling. But with that being said, the lows of can feel never ending. And when you're in the highs, it's so important to just enjoy the journey and really look back and reflect at where you're at. So I want to share some things that I've experienced along these lines, because man, trust me, I have been where you are. I've been in your shoes. I know what it's like. So let me just kind of start here. Is first things first, like I said, this is normal. If you do feel that way, it's because you're doing something hard. Most of the people who I know who have been called into entrepreneurship, you have a fire in your heart. That's really the only way to explain it. This is why you work 120 hours a week and you make less than minimum wage, especially if you're just starting out, right? Um, this is why you do what you do, because you are probably completely unemployable. Getting a job to you is not an option. God didn't make you to get a job. God made you to do what you're doing. So, first things first, understand that you've been called into doing what you're doing. I think that's a really, really big place that we all forget. Um, when especially when we're going through these hard things. God called us to this. It's not easy. It is hard. It does suck, it's not fun. It's just the way that it is. I mean, this is this is what we do. We do hard stuff. But you have to remember that you've been called to this and that God is going to use you, and he's already using you today, probably in ways that you may not know. So that's the first thing that I want to let you know is that you've been called to this, you've been cut from a different cloth. If it feels super overwhelming, well, guess what? It feels superwhelming overwhelming for everybody, but you've been called for this. And if you stay faithful to the mission that God's called you to, there is a promised land that is in store for you. I don't know if that promised land is in this life. I'm going to be very canon. Most people who get into business end up failing out of that business, uh, starting new businesses, realizing what does work, or refining their process that so that that business that they started 10 years ago has now flourished into, you know, a much bigger project and all these kinds of things. But basically, when we get into business, we have to expect hard times, but we are called from this because called to this because we are cut from a different cloth. So that's the first thing, okay? The second thing is that you have to realize that Jesus only called you to live day by day. This is something that all of my old mentors and all the people of the world and all these people who worshiped money and all these no offense idiots, okay, they didn't understand the concept of what I'm about to tell you. And I promise you, if you embrace this concept, your life will immediately get, I'm gonna say, 50% more chill. I know that's a ridiculous claim. It will. All right. Here's the concept that I learned probably about 10 years into entrepreneurship that has changed everything for me. Jesus told us to live day by day. I'm gonna repeat that. One of the commandments from Jesus, and by the way, I like to look at the commandments as invitations because we are invited to live a different way than the world. The world can stomp around, the world can get all angry, the world can be constantly obsessed with their money, worrying about how much, you know, they can be driven by fear of losing all their money, they can be driven by the fear of losing all their accolades and their reputation. By the way, guys, I've been there, I've done that. It's not as bad as you think. It absolutely sucks in every way, but when you have God, it's not that bad. All that is is a refining period if that's what you're going through. Little caveat there, but you guys, seriously, live day by day. You are invited to live by day day by day. This is from Matthew 6, where Jesus tells us, look at the birds, they don't worry about anything, you know, they're fed. And he says, Look at the lilies of the field. Not even Solomon, in all of his splendor, was clothed as nicely as these lilies, right? And then he tells us, and who of you can add a single hair to your head by worrying? Instead, worry about today and let tomorrow bring its own troubles. That's what Jesus taught us. Okay, that's pretty much paraphrase. So it's not perfect, but it's paraphrase. You guys, that's an invitation, man. Ever since I embraced that, and ever since I started living that way, I really have to tell you, my stress levels have gone down significantly. You know what? If you're doing your best every single day, and this is the thing, you got to do your best every day. Every day you got to do your best. And you know what? Sometimes doing your best is 30%. You don't have any gas left in your tank after you know these marathons and these sprints that I talked about in the last episode. And if you guys haven't seen the last episode, go check out the last episode. It was really, really good. It was basically all about you know periods of really turning up the intensity for sustained periods and then turning down and and reflecting and some of the patterns that go along with entrepreneurship. But in a nutshell, you guys, we are commanded and invited to only live for today. All right. Are you doing the best that you can today? Are you doing the absolute best that you can today? If you're not doing the best, well, we need to work on that. You're probably worried about tomorrow, honestly. That's probably why you're not doing your best today, is because you're probably trying to save some rever reserves from tomorrow or for tomorrow, but that's not what Jesus told us to live. That's not how he told us to live. All right. So then the third thing that I want to share with you guys is that God is in control. Okay. 100% God is in control. If you're letting him choose and if you're letting him lead where your business wants to go, which might mean less money for you, might mean more money, might mean more people, it might mean less people. But if you're paying attention to where God wants you to go and you're really, really doing everything for him, he's gonna set you up on the right path and he's going to bring the people into your life. It's going to shape your entrepreneurial career to glorify him and help the people who are desperate in this world. Follow God, you guys. He is in control. Are you letting him be in control? Or are you trying to manipulate the reins? Are you trying to grab the reins and do things your way? Well, maybe you're so stressed out right now because you're trying to force things that God doesn't want. I hope you're thinking about that. I hope that's something that you pray about every single day. And that's part of doing the best that we can every day is following God, no matter the cost, right? No matter how crazy it sounds, no matter if you got that crazy idea that you feel like you should really, really try, I'm gonna argue that maybe there's a reason for that. If you got that crazy idea, like you need to fire half your staff and you need to actually hunker down and be paid a little bit less so that you can build this in a more clean direction day by day, maybe you should. All right. But if you're out here like how I used to be, grinding, just to, you know, oh man, I gotta hit this revenue goal. Oh, we need to make more money. Oh man, we're totally screwed here, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Dude. And just stop it. Okay, that's what I that's all I'm gonna say. Just stop it. You don't have to live that way. You have a father in heaven who cares deeply about you. And if you let him be in control, I promise things will work out for you. All right, that's just a little bit of encouragement for you guys. I love each and every one of you. If this episode was helpful, please share this with somebody. Uh, the reason I do this is really just to bless people. And uh, well, you know, God called me two years ago to do this, and then he he gave me the time, which is now to do it. And uh, I'm really just so thankful to see how many people are listening to the podcast, how many people are sharing and all that kind of stuff. So if you have any friends or family members, or maybe you know, maybe your boss, right? If you have somebody in that situation, share this, uh, share this podcast with them and just give them a hand. So I love you guys. Have a wonderful day. I'll talk to you all soon.
